We have to bring this thread here too! It was one of my favourite places to get opinions on new shows to watch. Recently I finished watching quite a few shows. This is Us, Season 2. I hate to love that show. It's a little too much drama for me, but at the same time I'm sucked into the stories of the characters now.
Girl Boss: Quirky. There were a couple episodes that almost caused me to abandon ship, but I kept watching. Glow: I finished both seasons. LOVE this show. Female wrestlers in the 80s. highly recommend. Good Girls: That was fun.
Maniac: What a weird show! Anyone else watch this? It's about two people who end up in a psych experiment together.
Heartland Season 11: Another Canadian show. This one is my guilty pleasure. It's just a feel good show.
Atypical Season 2: Just as good as season 1. I hope they keep this show going.
I started watching:
Life in Pieces. I really like this one! Cute family humor.
Season 3 of Schitt's Creek is on Netflix now. I love this show! Canadian and funny. Thumbs up.
My husband and I recently tried out an episode of Quantico. I don't think he's sold. He doesn't like network TV shows. I didn't mind it though. Just enough action and "who done it?" for me.
Bosch. Sometimes it's a bit long and a bit dry, but overall it's good. We are 3 or 4 episodes in.
We seem to have completely abandoned Shameless, The Crown, Sneaky Pete, The Man in the High Castle, Riverdale, The Last Man on Earth, The 100, The Rain, and Money Heist. I also abandoned ship on Dynasty. It was awful.
Anyone else watching Survivor? It's a great season called David vs Goliath. There are some really great personalities. I'm hoping Jane the Virgin comes back soon. I loved that show.
I stumbled upon Manifest on Netflix and while I almost passed because I don’t generally enjoy sci-if or paranormal stuff I am totally hooked. My husband and I had started watching “In the dark,” which we are both enjoying but I’m having to put that on hold while I watch Manifest. It takes me a while to get through a show and I think there are about 4 seasons of Manifest so hopefully I’ll get back to it ITD one day. I’m also eager to watch the new season of White Lotus - I loved the first one. I think the dysfunctional characters made me feel so much better about myself 😂
I'm still watching the Boys with my "boys". I definitely wouldn't watch it on my own but it's been fun watching it with them - just a few episodes a week. Of course I'm watching the current season of The Crown. In seasons past I would've binged it but it's not quite as compelling to me this season. I do like the actress that plays Diana - she has "the look" down. I need to subscribe to HBO again for the new season of White Lotus and I'm sure there are some other new things there to watch. Oh yeah, just finished the recent season of Great British Baking Show. It seems like they pulled back some which is a good thing in my opinion. Some of the showstopper bakes in the past few season were getting a bit crazy.
I've been enjoying Fixer Upper: The Castle on HBO and Discovery +. Chip and Joanna bought a no-joke castle. Watching them transform it is weirdly soothing.
I blew through season 3 of Couples Therapy on Showtime. That series is fascinating, real couples having sessions with a real therapist.
Currently, I'm watching Ancient Apocalypse on Netflix. It's a series showing evidence of advanced civilizations on earth that are much older than our current archeological record acknowledges.
I have plenty of time off these days, so if anyone has any recommendations, let me know.
My son and husband convinced me to watch The Boys. They said they liked it so much they'd re-watch with me. Which is good since I'm not yet convinced. I can see that it's well made but it may be a too graphic for me. I'm going to stick with it for a few more episodes - we've only watched 2 so far.
My husband and I have been marathon watching the UK show Taskmaster. It’s basically a bunch of comedians, actors, and/or musicians having loads of fun together through meaningless competition. It’s better to just watch it rather than try to explain it. :D If you are looking for fun and laughs, I recommend it! The show has become so popular that now there are loads of spinoff series in other countries around the world, but so far, we have only watched the original UK version. You can check out the first 10 series/seasons on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/Taskmaster/playlists
I don't have an Apple TV subscription at the moment but when I do again I'm definitely watching Severance. I've heard so many good things about it.
We've been catching up and after finishing Succession we watched White Lotus and just finished Hacks. It took me a few episodes to get into both shows but then I loved them. We never saw Veep so we'll start on that but I'm hoping to find something more current.
Dh and my son watched The Boys. It didn't sound like something I'd like so I didn't join them, despite their encouragement. Perhaps I'll take a second look...
Anyone jumped on the Severance bandwagon yet? So good. One of the best shows I've seen this year.
I also binge-watched The Boys in four days. It was so entertaining; I had a good time watching it.
I'm currently watching Forensic Files II because I'm super interested in True Crime. I listen to a lot of TC podcasts. 😬
I'm finally watching Succession. We're 3 episodes in and I'm hooked. We're trying to savor and only watching one episode at a time. They are all just horrible, horrible people but it's so good.
We decided to stop at one season of the Flight Attendant. I heard it wasn't as good as the first (which I had mixed feeling about). But will the re-evaluate if anyone thinks it's worth it. :)
If you have any interest in the UFO phenomenon, Unacknowledged and Close Encounters of the Fifth Kind are two fantastic documentaries about UFO history, government disclosure, weird science, and the nature of consciousness. They're on Amazon Prime.
Barry was so good! Definitely something that dh and I could enjoy together. We don't always have the same tastes. Now two episodes into The Flight Attendant. We're hooked. However all her drinking makes me anxious. I guess that's part of the vibe. Anyway, since there's only 2 seasons (I think) we're trying to savor this one.
Also, Staircase series on HBO Max
The Bear has dropped Season 1 on Hulu is EXCELLENT. (Stars Jeremy Allen from "Lip" Gallagher on the Showtime dramedy series Shameless). Synopsis: "The Bear is about food, family, the insanity of the grind, the beauty of Sense of Urgency and the steep slippery downsides. As Carmy fights to transform both The Original Beef of Chicagoland (restaurant) and himself, he works alongside a rough-around-the-edges kitchen crew that ultimately reveal themselves as his chosen family."
Only Murders in the Building is back on Hulu this week for season 2. 😊
Did you watch Somebody Somewhere on HBO? I can’t remember. That was a great feel-good series, so was Julia. The Wire is amazing gritty crime drama. I enjoyed season one of The Flight Attendant on HBO. I’m probably forgetting something.
Because I'm on a Molly Shannon kick we went back and watch Divorce on HBO. I had only watched the first season but dh hadn't so I rewatched it with him and then we binged seasons 2 and 3. We enjoyed it. Now we are on Barry and I know that we are going to love it. I only let us watch 2 episodes so it isn't over too soon. That said, I like the short episodes.
Any other good HBO TV shows, even older ones, that I may have missed?
I loved Julia. Glad there will be a 2nd season! I may give Barry a try based on your rec. HBO keeps extending my deal but I haven’t been watching as much there lately.
Julia on HBO was so fantastic. It was renewed, so I look forward to season two.
I just started JULIA on HBO and it looks like it'll be great fun.. I finished Gentleman Jack season 2 was terrific What do you all think of SnowPiercer?
@skwigg I love Barry. It's so well done. Bill Hader is a terrific writer, director, and actor. I caught up and then binged S3. Wild and fantastic.
I'm trying to get into Peaky Blinders now and I can see the appeal but the first couple are sloooow. I'm also rewatching Everybody Hates Chris. It has some cringe moments but it's really funny and the cast is stellar.
People told me I had to keep watching Barry. I’m glad I did. It’s wonderfully nutty, as well as dark and violent. Laugh out loud funny, then murder, then romance, then jaw-dropping plot twists. I like that they are short episodes and only 8 per season. I finished season one and understand the buzz now.
