We have to bring this thread here too! It was one of my favourite places to get opinions on new shows to watch. Recently I finished watching quite a few shows. This is Us, Season 2. I hate to love that show. It's a little too much drama for me, but at the same time I'm sucked into the stories of the characters now.
Girl Boss: Quirky. There were a couple episodes that almost caused me to abandon ship, but I kept watching. Glow: I finished both seasons. LOVE this show. Female wrestlers in the 80s. highly recommend. Good Girls: That was fun.
Maniac: What a weird show! Anyone else watch this? It's about two people who end up in a psych experiment together.
Heartland Season 11: Another Canadian show. This one is my guilty pleasure. It's just a feel good show.
Atypical Season 2: Just as good as season 1. I hope they keep this show going.
I started watching:
Life in Pieces. I really like this one! Cute family humor.
Season 3 of Schitt's Creek is on Netflix now. I love this show! Canadian and funny. Thumbs up.
My husband and I recently tried out an episode of Quantico. I don't think he's sold. He doesn't like network TV shows. I didn't mind it though. Just enough action and "who done it?" for me.
Bosch. Sometimes it's a bit long and a bit dry, but overall it's good. We are 3 or 4 episodes in.
We seem to have completely abandoned Shameless, The Crown, Sneaky Pete, The Man in the High Castle, Riverdale, The Last Man on Earth, The 100, The Rain, and Money Heist. I also abandoned ship on Dynasty. It was awful.
Anyone else watching Survivor? It's a great season called David vs Goliath. There are some really great personalities. I'm hoping Jane the Virgin comes back soon. I loved that show.
I loved Top Gun in the 80s. I hadn't watched Top Gun: Maverick yet because I was afraid it would be unbearably corny. I finally watched it tonight. It was so nostalgic, funny, and suspenseful. I really enjoyed it!
I forgot to mention that I've been watching the current season of The Bachelor. I'm not really sure why but it's mindless guilty pleasure. I used to watch the the Bachelor/Bachelorette seasons every one but I finally lost interest about 10 years ago except for the random episode here and there. I think why I'm into it this year is because I also found a Youtube channel with funny recaps and some sleuthing from the previews. So it's kind of fun - actually I could just watch the Youtube channel by itself - no need to watch the show, but we're almost done. Anyway the funny thing about this season if you're totally off the Bachelor radar is the guy's thing is no drama and any women who show a hint of drama don't last long. But he ends up being the biggest drama instigator of them all. It's also kind of funny to me that he's only a year older than my son and I really just can't imagine that!
I think this was on Paramount or Amazon Prime, something called Top Gun Training where Tom Cruise takes James Corden flying in fighter planes and scares him to death. It was pretty funny. I had no idea Tom really flew fighter jets, but of course he does!
I’m going to wait and binge Ted Lasso all at once. I just had the free trial of Paramount + so I could watch Maverick Top Gun. I saw the original as a teen and it was so good at the time but so cheesy on re-watches. Maverick brought back that original feeling, I really enjoyed it.
This one looks good, Skwigg I’ll check it out.
Ted Lasso is back!
I'm also really looking forward to Lucky Hank with Bob Odenkirk from Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. I haven't watched the first episode, but I may have to get AMC+ while it's on. Sometimes I can wait until there are many episodes of something, sign up for one month of the streaming service, and binge through it all. But I don't know if I can wait for this one.

We are caught up on Last of Us so now just waiting for the finale. I'm pretty sure both Succession and Barry have new seasons starting within the next month and I can't wait. I got the free trial of Showtime so I could watch Everything, Everywhere, All at Once. Woah - the first half was out of control. Not really my thing and too frenetic. But then it got better. Dh's friend had encouraged him to watch it and she said she watched it twice she liked it so much. We both thought now way can we watch that again. But I keep thinking about it and hmmmm, perhaps I could watch it again. lol
As for really trashy, I've watched the whole Bachelor this season. I've been watching a Youtube fan account too so I don't think the end will be a surprise but we'll see. Total guilty pleasure. :)
Some of the things I just wrapped up watching include Stranger Things, Cobra Kai, and the latest & last season of Aggretsuko. I found a lot of this most recent season of Stranger Things to be plodding, and it was only in the last two episodes, I feel, that the momentum got really good. Cobra Kai's latest season was awesome!! But I'm a huge fan of the movie franchise and was so stoked to see the characters of Kreese, Terry Silver, Chozen Toguchi, and even Mike Barnes return, in addition to Daniel and Johnny. The martial arts fights were spectacular and while a lot of the plot was corny, I didn't care. I know what I like and this was comfort-viewing for me.
I started watching Physical:100 on Netflix and it's a Korean reality show where 100 of the fittest people from different disciplines (CrossFit, bodybuilding, military Special Forces, MMA, and social media influencers) go through various challenges. I'm digging it so far.
And while I'm on the topic of Korean tv shows, I'm also watching Extraordinary Attorney Woo, which is about a trial lawyer with autism, and her struggles navigating work and her personal life. It's not all dead-serious, though, and I appreciate that there's a good deal of humor suffused throughout the show.
I'm glad you resurrected this thread @sarah too ! Chloe never did finish watching Stranger Things (or Wednesday for that matter). She got really scared and would only watch it with her dad but then I think too much time passed and she hasn't gone back to it.
TV shows have been on my mind lately and most recently I've been watching Physical. There are only 2 seasons and I just started the second but I'm completely addicted. It hits home for me because of the fact that the main character (Rose Byrne) finds happiness & meaning in aerobics and becomes an instructor, but her struggle with bulimia is a strong undercurrent in the show, too (there's the trigger warning in case anyone was interested in watching but unsure). There are a lot of f-bombs and her self-judgment and judgment of others is sometimes a little hard to take, but overall I can't stop watching and am thoroughly enjoying it. I seem to have a strong pull towards shows that offer at least some level of dysfunction (see my previous post about White Lotus 😁)
I had brunch with a couple of friends last Friday and we started talking TV shows. Here is the list I came up with based on their recommendations- I'm curious to know if anyone has watched these and/or your thoughts:
-Abbot Elementary
-Shrinking (I've seen commercials for this on AppleTV. It has Harrison Ford & Jason Segal and looks pretty funny)
-Firefly Lane
-Moms
-Trying
-Love
My parents are trying to convince me to watch a British detective show called "Happy Valley." I've added it to my list but as you can see I have a long ways to go (esp seeing as I can only handle one at a time)
Ted Lasso is for sure next on my list once it comes out!
I kind of let House of Cards fall by the wayside. I like the show but my mind wanders a lot and I find myself having to rewind and rewatch a lot (and I still don't understand what's going on).
We finally finished Stranger Things and are on Last of Us - two more episodes and we'll be caught up. Enjoying it but I don't really liked being scared. lol Stranger Things was so campy that it wasn't scary to me, but Last of Us is too real.
Looks like the new seasons of Ted Lasso and Succession are coming up soon so that will be more good watching.
The Last of Us! So good. :)
Late to the bandwagon, but we are one episode away from finishing season 1 of Stranger Things and I am hooked!
@sarah too We only have 2 more episodes of White Lotus season 2 left and I am already bumming hard about it. There's something so pleasurable about watching so much dysfunction. 😂 It truly has been one of my favorite shows ever. I'm not sure if I like season 2 better than the first, but definitely just as much. I really loved the Australian hotel owner from the first season, but the characters from this one are awesome, too. Not to mention the scenery and language. I feel like I could listen to them speak Italian all day long.
I am getting sad about it coming to an end as I don't know what else to watch either. My husband suggested I watch House of Cards so I might start with that.
We finished season 2 of White Lotus. So good! I liked it better than season 1 even.
Need another good show to watch with my husband. Has anyone seen Severance?
I stumbled upon Manifest on Netflix and while I almost passed because I don’t generally enjoy sci-if or paranormal stuff I am totally hooked. My husband and I had started watching “In the dark,” which we are both enjoying but I’m having to put that on hold while I watch Manifest. It takes me a while to get through a show and I think there are about 4 seasons of Manifest so hopefully I’ll get back to it ITD one day. I’m also eager to watch the new season of White Lotus - I loved the first one. I think the dysfunctional characters made me feel so much better about myself 😂
I'm still watching the Boys with my "boys". I definitely wouldn't watch it on my own but it's been fun watching it with them - just a few episodes a week. Of course I'm watching the current season of The Crown. In seasons past I would've binged it but it's not quite as compelling to me this season. I do like the actress that plays Diana - she has "the look" down. I need to subscribe to HBO again for the new season of White Lotus and I'm sure there are some other new things there to watch. Oh yeah, just finished the recent season of Great British Baking Show. It seems like they pulled back some which is a good thing in my opinion. Some of the showstopper bakes in the past few season were getting a bit crazy.
I've been enjoying Fixer Upper: The Castle on HBO and Discovery +. Chip and Joanna bought a no-joke castle. Watching them transform it is weirdly soothing.
I blew through season 3 of Couples Therapy on Showtime. That series is fascinating, real couples having sessions with a real therapist.
Currently, I'm watching Ancient Apocalypse on Netflix. It's a series showing evidence of advanced civilizations on earth that are much older than our current archeological record acknowledges.
I have plenty of time off these days, so if anyone has any recommendations, let me know.
My son and husband convinced me to watch The Boys. They said they liked it so much they'd re-watch with me. Which is good since I'm not yet convinced. I can see that it's well made but it may be a too graphic for me. I'm going to stick with it for a few more episodes - we've only watched 2 so far.
My husband and I have been marathon watching the UK show Taskmaster. It’s basically a bunch of comedians, actors, and/or musicians having loads of fun together through meaningless competition. It’s better to just watch it rather than try to explain it. :D If you are looking for fun and laughs, I recommend it! The show has become so popular that now there are loads of spinoff series in other countries around the world, but so far, we have only watched the original UK version. You can check out the first 10 series/seasons on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/Taskmaster/playlists
I don't have an Apple TV subscription at the moment but when I do again I'm definitely watching Severance. I've heard so many good things about it.
We've been catching up and after finishing Succession we watched White Lotus and just finished Hacks. It took me a few episodes to get into both shows but then I loved them. We never saw Veep so we'll start on that but I'm hoping to find something more current.
Dh and my son watched The Boys. It didn't sound like something I'd like so I didn't join them, despite their encouragement. Perhaps I'll take a second look...
Anyone jumped on the Severance bandwagon yet? So good. One of the best shows I've seen this year.
I also binge-watched The Boys in four days. It was so entertaining; I had a good time watching it.
I'm currently watching Forensic Files II because I'm super interested in True Crime. I listen to a lot of TC podcasts. 😬
