Any Walking Dead fans here? Far out! I won't say anything but I caught up on the weekend (we are up to Season 9, Episode 8 here which I think is the same as US) and.......... Woah. So many feels.
I gave up on The Walking Dead a couple of seasons ago. Everyone I love dies horribly or lives in constant pain and violent turmoil. I'd finish every episode an emotional wreck and mad at the writers. Finally, I was like, "Why am I watching this?" LOL
A friend sent me a text yesterday that was something like, "Is your electricity back on? If so, go watch You on Netflix right now. It's addictive." So, I did and it is. It's horror, I think, but it plays like a romantic comedy. It's a classic boy meets girl story but with stalking, kidnapping, and hiding bodies. I watched three in a row and am headed into episode four right now. Marie Kondo's Tidying Up is on hold until I figure out what the heck is happening here.
Oh, and Marvel's The Punisher, season 2 is out on Friday. It looks...uplifting. Haha! Not really. Frank has some anger management issues, but I'm looking forward to it. I've enjoyed all of the Marvel shows on Netflix.
@skwigg , funny you mention Walking Dead, because I got burned out on it a while ago, too. I think it’s lasted three seasons too long, and while I occasionally watch an episode, it’s just too much for me.
Another show I’m kind of over on is Law & Order:SVU. I never thought I’d say that, but the writing has been so bad the last two seasons, and while it’s always done social commentary, now it’s like a hammer to the head they‘re doing every episode. Plus it’s gotten even more predictable than ever. It doesn’t help that one of my beloved characters, ADA Rafael Barba, was written off.
I really enjoyed Derry Girls on Netflix, and the Good Place is stronger than ever. And did anyone catch this past Thursday ‘s episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine? Omg , the Hitchcock and Scully backstory had me in stitches! Who knew those schlubs had been studs back in the day?
On Netflix, I finished watching Tidying Up. I went through my decluttering phase a few years ago after reading her book. It's funny to watch my friends and coworkers now getting into it from the Netflix series. I liked You. It was suspenseful and weird. Russian Doll had good reviews. Amy Poehler is a creator. I got sucked into that and enjoyed it. It's kind of a Groundhog Day thing where a woman keeps dying in horrible ways at her own birthday party. I only made it a few episodes into Punisher, season two. I think I'm over it. I watched The Umbrella Academy about a dysfunctional family of former super heroes. After the first two episodes I wasn't totally sure about it, but the plot and the action really took off in episode three. I watched the whole series in a weekend and really enjoyed it. It has a very fun soundtrack that I'm now listening to in the car.
I don't know what to watch next. I hate that void when you finish a series. I'm interested in Doom Patrol on DC Universe, but I don't know if I'm interested enough to pay to watch it.
I hate that void too! It's an unsettling place to be LOL. I just watched Season 1 of Good Girls. It was kind of dumb but I like the actors and it kept me wanting to watch more. I finished it pretty much over a weekend. I am now watching Dirty John. As my sister said - it'd not very good but I couldn't stop watching LOL.. So I am really getting into some quality over here ;)
I was so upset when I finished The Good Place recently. Just when I was really starting to love it! Gah!
I must have finished Tidying Up without realizing it because it's no longer in our "continue watching" list.
I also finished the most recent season of Fuller House. I really like that show. It not only brings back memories of watching Full House, but it's the same kind of "feel good" show. It's super corny and cheesey, but that's part of what I like about it.
I've started watching Working Moms. I can't remember if I'd mentioned it here already of not. I watched the first episode and felt like it was just trying to hard to get views with shock value (unnecessary nudity and sexual content). But it was getting great reviews so I gave it another shot and now I'm liking it.
We are also watching Russian Doll and can't decide what we think of it. We kind of like it but find it a bit annoying at the same time.
@Jess we have Dirty John on our list to watch. We've heard mixed review about it. What about it isn't very good? Is the acting crappy?
I finished it last night. It was gripping - it kept you involved - but yeah, I think it was the characters - I couldn't stand John (obviously) and I was just constantly mad at the woman for being so gullible! It's worth watching though. Both Connie Britton and Eric Bana are great.
Interesting about Russian Dolls. It was going to be my next one. Let me know if you keep watching it, how it goes.
I watched AfterLife with Ricky Gervais on Netflix. I really liked it! It was dark and funny, but surprisingly touching too. His wife has died of cancer and he's alone with the dog, trying to go on, but wanting to die, and definitely not holding back on what he really thinks of people.
Then at some point I realized that I get free Hulu with my Spotify Premium account. I'm sure they've emailed me about this before, but I finally got around to linking the accounts. Last night, I watched Free Solo about the completely insane superhuman freak who climbed El Capitan in Yosemite without any ropes. A 3,000 foot shear vertical cliff. No ropes or climbing gear, just his hands and feet. OMG! I was on the edge of my seat. I can't quit thinking about it today. After that, I watched BalletNow, which is a documentary about ballet and contemporary dance with some cool performances. Tonight, I might watch Tiny Shoulders, a documentary about the cultural significance of the Barbie Doll.
I hope to get into another series after that. I saw that season two of The OA is out next week. That show was so freaking weird! I can't imagine where they're going to go with it. I enjoyed season one though. I'll probably check it out.
I realized today that I have finally finished watching all the episodes of Suits that are available on Netflix. I'm not sure what that show is doing on network tv but I sure hope it didn't end with the last episode I saw.
I'm still working my way through Gossip Girl. It's very much a "highschool drama" show but I love it lol.
Hey so the OA - is it worth watching? I'd planned for it to be next on my list and last night I watched half of the first episode and was hella confused and couldn't get into it... should I persevere?
Others will likely disagree, but my husband and I hated The OA. We were intrigued in the beginning...then kept watching hoping it would get better...then wished we could get all those hours of our lives back. Lol.
I haven‘t watched any of the new Queer Eye, but season 3 was filmed here in Kansas City. A friend just told me that one of the episodes takes place in her condo complex, so I’ll have to get on that.
Im curious about Hannah on Amazon, but I don’t think it’s out yet.
Anyone watch Shrill on Hulu? I binged the 6 episodes the weekend it came out. It's pretty funny and I think spot on - but I've never been truly fat (just in my mind lol).
Anyway, fyi it's not always sunny in Portland. lol But you'd think it was from shows like Portlandia and this one.
Shrill looks good! I have Queer Eye on my solo watch list. Now that school is over, we are trying to work our way through our list and it's ridiculously long, haha! We started by finishing up final seasons of shows that have ended: Orphan Black (amazing finale); the Americans (such a terrific show), Longmire (I loved that show but the final season felt rushed and a few things iffy), and the Leftovers. We also caught up (for now) on Man in the High Castle and Atypical. We've also watched a couple of Netflix shows -- Umbrella Academy and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina -- that my husband had already seen and thought I'd love. He was right! Especially UA, one of my all-time faves. Can't wait for S2. Sabrina put me in the mood to watch Riverdale, which we had only seen the first season of. We started on S2 last night. It was sad to see Luke Perry (and his character shot and in the hospital, no less). It's a fun show, though. Hanna is on our list (we watched the pilot when they sneak previewed it).
I want Kelly to watch S1 of Barry so we can watch the second season together. I watched it at my hotel while I was in Portland in Oct. That show was surprisingly great and I loved this article about Bill Hader and the show (spoilers for S1, just fyi): https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2019/03/18/bill-hader-kills
I finished season 2 of The OA. It was as weird and wonderful as I had hoped, with another completely batshit ending.
Speaking of bats, is anybody watching What We Do in the Shadows on FX? It’s a quirky documentary-style comedy about a group of vampires sharing a house. They’re supposed to be taking over the New World, but it’s not going well. I love it!
We're cruising through S2 of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, and recently finished S2 of Riverdale. I don't think K has watched Barry yet, I'm not sure when S2 is coming back. Meanwhile, I've been wanting to watch Episodes for ages but never had Showtime (I think that was its network). It's finally on Netflix! I've been cruising through it, the eps are very short and easy to breeze through. It's not exactly what I expected. It's funny, but in a very subtle way. Some of the humor is "inside Hollywood," which makes sense given the premise. It's interesting to see Matt LeBlanc play a version of himself, and not a terribly nice one at that. I'm enjoying it but not sure why, or if I should be, lol. It's also strange to see a younger Sam Palladio (Gunnar from Nashville) playing a cute but (so far) vapid actor. I loved his character on Nashville (though I eventually stopped watching that, I may try to find the seasons I missed at some point, now that it's over).
I made the mistake of watching Bird Box last night and frankly, that is 2 hours of my life down the toilet. It was BAD.

really enjoyed "I am not an easy man" on netflix. Any recommendations to what to watch next?
I am not easy man is french movie. I man wakes up in a world where the roles are changed - women act like men! It's thought provoking

What are you guys watching lately?

Guys! You have to watch Sex Education! It is cute and hilarious! Easy to watch. I loved it.
Hey so the OA - is it worth watching? I'd planned for it to be next on my list and last night I watched half of the first episode and was hella confused and couldn't get into it... should I persevere?

@Tonya Oh no! LOL. Yeah, I don't like it when that happens...
Hmmm... I'm torn! Haha
I think others in here really enjoyed it, so you still might like it. We did not, lol. But everyone is different! 🙂
That’s funny, @Jess!

Oh cool! I’ve watched the first two eps of season 3... didn’t realise it’s all in one city! And yours to boot! I’ll watch with more interest.
Anyone watch Shrill on Hulu? I binged the 6 episodes the weekend it came out. It's pretty funny and I think spot on - but I've never been truly fat (just in my mind lol).

Hulu recommended Shrill to me. Maybe I’ll check it out.
Loved Shrill and Working Moms on Hulu

I still can't get over Luke Perry. It completely shocked me. 😔

We love What We Do in the Shadows! Did you see the movie, skwigg?
@bluetamarai I haven't seen the movie yet. I hear it's fun.
The 3rd season of Santa Clarita Diet is hilarious. The best yet I think. The one liners are thick and fast.
Awesome! I can’t wait! Santa Clarita Diet is next up on my list.
@skwigg Ep 5 and Ep 10 have some golden moments!!! Haha
@Jess , we are behind on Santa Clarita Diet, and haven't watched S2 yet! Thanks for the reminder. It's on our (very long) list. :)
We're cruising through S2 of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, and recently finished S2 of Riverdale. I don't think K has watched Barry yet, I'm not sure when S2 is coming back.
