Eating What You Want to Satisfaction

    in Food

There’s no reason to place certain foods completely off limits, just like there’s no reason to overeat them until you feel ill. I think one causes the other actually. When I was restricting I used to only allow myself certain foods on designated days, like a cheat day mentality. I always went overboard on those foods that were only sporadically allowed. The practice of enjoying a few M&Ms after lunch several times a week means I’m no longer tempted to eat a big bag of them with both hands. Being more mindful while you’re eating creates more enjoyment and satisfaction. Eat something quickly while distracted or feeling guilty about it and the experience is completely different. Lots of fullness, but no joy, no sense of being done. When I would overeat one food and not find the experience satisfying, I would often overeat another, and another. The real satisfaction is in those first few mindful bites.
