What helped me was actually reading the Intuitive Eating book instead of doing my own twisted interpretation. Rejecting the diet mentality is step one. Without that, you're going to project diet thinking onto everything you do and it will go horribly awry. With intuitive eating, there is zero judgment, guilt, shame, fear about your choices. You're free to make them however you want and nothing about it determines your happiness or self-worth. There isn't the good/bad, right/wrong, all/nothing duality of dieting. If you find yourself in that headspace with non-dieting or happy eating (Oh, no! I’m doing it wrong!), actually doing the Intuitive Eating Workbook helps tremendously with identifying and dismantling diet thinking. It runs DEEP! We're all bombarded with it every day. It was this video of a lecture https://youtu.be/eSpzf72S6IY with one of the Intuitive Eating authors, Evelyn Tribole, that inspired me to finally read the book. I don't think I'd ever actually read it! I was doing like an internet imaginary weight loss version of Intuitive Eating that didn't begin to touch the underlying issues. My take on it only gave me new numbers and diet rules to follow or break. Point missed entirely.
