I'm embarrassed at how giddy I was during the opening scenes of A Very Brady Renovation on HGTV. If you're not following it, HGTV bought the original Brady Bunch house in Studio City, California. It was only ever used for exterior scenes, but HGTV's top designers are remodeling it to match the show's original sets. They're doing it with the help of the cast members, and people all over the country who searched their attics and garages for furniture and knickknacks from the time period. I can't believe how much I'm enjoying it! LOL
I hear season 2 of Mindhunter is good on Netflix, but it's hard to go from feel-good decorating fluff right to serial killers.
My husband and I are LOVING Mindhunter Season 2.
We are also watching the last season of Orange is the New Black. It's VERY political. Lots of commentary on the jail system.
We are also watching Arrested Development and The Fosters on Netflix.
Parenthood just got released on Prime TV so we started that as well.
The Breaking Bad movie El Camino on Netflix made me so very happy. It's definitely not a stand-alone movie, more like a two-hour episode. To get two more hours of my favorite show was a gift! I may watch it again.
I just got into watching Evil on CBS. I don’t watch a lot of network dramas these days, but it’s just fun, and riffs on one of my personally favorite topics (rational explanations for crazy occurrences vs supernatural ones).
And I finished season 3 of Atypical . Loved it, though I think season 2 was stronger. But it all came together wonderfully, and I do hope they return for another run.
It was a long haul but I FINALLY finished Pretty Little Liars. I wanted to give up on it a few times at the end. It started taking some weird twists and plot lines that I didn't really like. Honestly, after watching the whole thing, I feel very strongly that they should have ended it at least two seasons before they actually did.
I have one more episode of Suits to watch. My husband and I originally started watching it together a while ago. When it started getting too unrealistic, as most shows do, my husband abandoned it and I started watching it on my own. I don't love where it's gone, but I also don't hate it. I'm glad but also sad that there is only one episode left to watch.
I don't know if I already knew that the 3rd season of The Amazing Mrs. Maisel was out or not. I feel like it must have been mentioned at least once or twice here. Anyway, I saw it on prime earlier this week and got super excited about it. I'm about 3 episodes in and laughing my head off all through the episodes.
Does anyone else still watch Grey's Anatomy? I still really like that show. There have been times when I've wished they'd end it, but they always make up for it with a great show or something and I get sucked right back in.
i love Grey’s Anatomy. I may have missed the latest season but I’m going to go check now. I was pretty attached to the original cast of characters, but I still enjoy the latter episodes too. Also, I agreed on Pretty Little Liars.
I wrote in my own journal a bit, but the shows I recently finished being hooked on are Black Mirror, Atypical, and The Good Place. Oh, and I finished the first season of Sex Education. Some of it was slightly over the top, but there were also parts that made me laugh out loud and cry.
@Mottainai we love Black Mirror for the most part. Every once in a while they have an episode that's just "meh" for us, but overall, we love it.
We are also big fans of Atypical. We really liked the most recent season.
We really like Sex Education. We are on the most recent season (Season 2 I think?).
I'm not sure how old or new it is, but has anyone watched The Stranger? I found it on Netflix and the first few episodes have been great, I'm totally hooked.
@melissa.stokes I totally binge-watched the entire thing in just a few days, and I loved it until the very end. Relationship drama+psych thriller/mystery are my genres of choice so it was perfect for me, but if you didn't get into it right away maybe it's not worth it for you!
@Mottainai and @melissa.stokes I don't easily get hooked on TV shows very often, but The Stranger totally did me in! I normally never watch TV without my husband but I went off into abandonment with this one. :-D Harlan Coben also did the TV show "Safe," which was a similar style and equally as good.
The one show I gave up on was the second season of You. It was a total snooze fest for me even though everyone said to keep watching. Now I'm enjoying "Cheer" and the new season of Curb Your Enthusiasm.
Did anyone watch Schitt’s Creek? I’d forgotten about it but I just watched the 4th and 5th seasons. I don’t want to spoil anything just in case, but I actually cried at the engagement that happened at the end of season 5. I find all the main characters really engaging and endearing, and I appreciate the way they all have quirks and issues but care for each other despite, like a weirdly good concept of how family and friends should work.
Anyone watch any good tv lately?
We are getting into Better Call Saul. We weren't too sure about it the first season and a half or so, but now, three seasons in, we are really liking it.
We watched Little Fires Everywhere on Amazon Prime. It was REALLY good. If you have Prime, I highly recommend it.
We're also watching Space Force. It stars Steve Carrell (sp?). It's kind of quirky. Some episodes are really good. Others are just meh.
We are really missing our reality shows like Survivor and Big Brother. In there place we have tried watching The Floor is Lava and Awake - both on Netflix. FIL is like Wipeout. I'm not a fan, but my kids LOVE it. They are now making their own FIL courses in the house. Awake is an interesting premise. The basic idea is that the contestants stay awake for 24hrs during which time they are expected to count out quarters and try to keep and accurate count of how much they count out. Then after this they preform a series of challenges that are made even more challenging because they are sleep deprived. Their accuracy in quarter counting plays a roll in how much money they win as well as their ability to continue on in the competition. We watched one episode and it wasn't terrible but it's wasn't great either.
We watched the second season of Homecoming. It was interesting. Not as good as the first season, but good.
I'm coming up to the last 2 episodes of Season 3 of Ozark and it's gripping! It's not often I get sucked into a show but this one has done me in.
I'm glad you said that about Little Fires Everywhere. I'd heard the show and the book were good, but when I tried to read the book I couldn't get past the first 30 pages before giving up (and it's not often I quit on a book). Did you ever read it or just watch the show? Perhaps I'll check that out once Ozark is over.
My husband loves Better Caul Saul but I couldn't get into it. I'm pretty sure my kids have seen some of FIL on youTube because for a while there my daughter was CONSTANTLY asking me about doing a 24 hour challenge 🤣
I thought i saw a couple of friends post on fb that Big Brother is back again? I never watched the show so I can't confirm but I thought I'd mention it.
@Hayley Ozark is SO GOOD!
I hadn't read the book before watching Little Fires Everywhere. When I told my SIL about the show she said she had read the book and didn't really love it. My husband and I both really enjoyed the show though so who knows.
Your friends are correct! After my post yesterday I saw that Big Brother has announced that their 22nd season starts August 3 . My husband, BIL and I are very excited.
Ok I'm definitely going to have to check out Little Fires Everywhere since your SIL also disliked the book. I've heard such good things about the show and I think Reese Witherspoon is in it (?) whom I love. I'm glad Big Brother is out for you! It's exciting when a good show comes back. I'm anxiously awaiting the next season of Ozark, which I hear will be split into two-8 episode seasons.
I love Better Call Saul. As a Breaking Bad fan, it's so fun to revisit that world and those characters.
I watched the first episode of Ozark season 3 and loved it. Then I watched the first four or so episodes of Dark season 3 on Netflix and loved those. I also watched some Unsolved Mysteries on Netflix. I would get totally sucked in, watch all the way to the end, and never find out what happened, because, duh! They're unsolved. I was really annoyed after the first one, but they're such good true crime that I may watch more. Then I started doing jigsaw puzzles and lost all ability to focus on the television. I hope to get back to it at some point, so I appreciate the recommendations.
@skwigg I used to watch Unsolved Mysteries when I was a kid/young teen. I still vividly remember one night I was scared to go to sleep because I had watched an UM episode about aliens that came in the night and possessed someone lol
When I saw it on Netflix I was so excited. My husband has no interest though so I'm going to have to watch it myself.
I got really into Ozark, but then home school started and the only time I get to watch my own shows is when the kids are at school. Ozark is definitely not appropriate when the kids are around and my husband hogs the tv at night. I will have to get back into it. I’ve seen the shorts for Dark and that looked interesting to me. I have watched a bit of Unsolved Mysteries. I like it for the true crime and the nostalgia. I always watched it every week- It was X Files and Unsolved mysteries and we couldn’t miss it 😅. I watched the Jeffrey Epstein doco too. That was so disturbing.
Also for nostalgia I have been watching She-ra. I loved the original She-ra when I was a kid in the 80’s. This version has great story lines and characters and at least I can watch it with the kids around.
I'm going to have to check out Dark now. I don't really know what's out there since I take suggestions from my husband, but that one has intrigued me. My mom told me she and my dad were watching the Jeffrey Epstein documentary but I'm not sure I want to go down that rabbit hole. I'm intrigued but I know it'll be disturbing.
No, I wouldn't say Ozark is good with kids around. I love Ruth but boy does that girl have a mouth 😁
I completely forgot that Better Caul Saul was a spin-off of Breaking Bad! I don't know if I've ever been quite as hooked on a show as I was BB (though this last season of Ozark really did me in).
Good Girls Season 3 released on Sunday!!!
I'm a little bit excited but also a little bit nervous. Season 1 was SO GOOD.
Season 2 was just okay. It teetered on being unbelievable.
So I'm nervous about Season 3. I'm hoping its going to be good.
Good Girls season 3 was fun. The season got cut short due to COVID stopping production. I hope it gets renewed. I was still enjoying it, and they definitely weren't done with the story when it wrapped. Though they found a good enough stopping place for the last episode that aired.
Has anyone else watched Dark on Netflix? I just discovered it and I’m obsessed. My husband doesn’t pay attention, comes in and out of the room, falls asleep, then keeps asking me who’s that, why are they doing that, what year are they in? So annoying 😂
@Melissa I haven't watched Dark yet, but I remember @skwigg or someone else mentioning that it was a good show. I watched about 30 seconds before switching it off but not because it didn't look good. I was just in the mood for something more uplifting but I do want to go back to it!
@Melissa Dark was such a brain-bender! I enjoyed it. But yeah, you can't do something else while watching or even look away or you'll have no idea what's happening. And, hey, even if you're watching with full attention, you often have no idea who that is or what's happening! So many characters and timelines, and German, and subtitles. Online, people have made charts trying to lay out all the connections. Best not to look at those. They're full of spoilers, and you'll still be confused. I know this from experience. Haha!
You watched it in German with subtitles? Here it’s dubbed into English which is a little bit weird, but at least I can pay attention to what’s going on in the screen. With the casting, I was struggling a bit because so many of the teenage boys look so similar and I’m trying to remember whose son/brother/father/self each one is. My son got up the other night and saw 5 minutes of Dark and now he keeps asking me to let him watch the whole show. “I want to watch the time travellers! I am old enough!” Sorry mate 6, isn’t old enough, just like I wouldn’t let him watch Game of thrones when he saw the ads for it and kept begging to watch it.
@Melissa I started out watching in dubbed English, but the mismatched lips and not hearing the original actors performances bugged me sufficiently that I switched to German and subtitles.
Has anyone watched The Social Dilemma documentary on Netflix? It was a fun one where tech insiders discuss how they're tracking us, selling us, and destroying democracy for profit. The "dramatizations" were a little corny but the actual interviews were jaw dropping. When they asked a former Facebook exec what he most feared, and he paused and said something like, "In the near term? Civil war."
