Sometimes we try out old behaviors to make sure we're not missing anything. It's especially tempting when life gets rough. We trip that old program that tells us to control or escape. "This is what I used to do in these situations. Let's see if it still works." Following through and discovering it still sucks is a blessing. It only clarifies the way forward. It doesn't mean everything is hopeless and you're doomed. You can never be back at square one. You have knowledge, support, and experience now that weren't available to you then. Nothing can erase it. So, we may revisit those old thoughts and behaviors, multiple times even, but the experience is different because WE are different. Instead of being a setback, it provides valuable insights that only help us going forward.
